“Ankara’s return as a finish location after 27 years added symbolic significance to the event,” said Cevdet Yılmaz, reflecting on the recent triumph of Sebastian Berwick in the 61st Presidential Cycling Tour of Türkiye.

Berwick clinched the overall title with a total time of 26 hours, 34 minutes, and 19 seconds. The race concluded with an exhilarating 105.2-kilometer stage that circled back to Ankara, marking a pivotal moment for both the city and the sport.

The significance of this event stretches beyond just cycling; it showcases Türkiye’s rich geography and cultural history to a global audience. “The race brought together athletes from 27 countries and showcased Türkiye’s geography, history, and natural beauty to a global audience of millions,” Yılmaz continued.

This year’s tour saw participants covering a staggering 1,133 kilometers across various terrains. The competition was fierce, with Ivan Ramiro Sosa and Kamiel Bonneu finishing closely behind Berwick.

Key achievements in the Tour:

Berwick won with a total time of 26 hours, 34 minutes, and 19 seconds.

The race included a final stage of 105.2 kilometers.

Athletes from 27 countries participated.

Meanwhile, Türkiye also made headlines in archery. At the European Para Archery Championship, Türkiye won a total of ten medals, securing second place overall. Oznur Cure Girdi shone brightly by winning gold in the women’s para compound individual category for the second consecutive year.

Medal tally for Türkiye:

3 gold medals

4 silver medals

3 bronze medals

The economic backdrop is equally impressive. Türkiye’s GDP is projected to rise to $1.64 trillion by 2026, positioning it as the leading economy among Muslim-majority countries. In comparison, Indonesia and Saudi Arabia are expected to follow with GDPs of $1.54 trillion and $1.39 trillion respectively.

<pAs sports events like these continue to gain prominence on international stages, they not only foster national pride but also stimulate economic growth and tourism in Türkiye.
