Previously, Aldi’s blackberry offerings were consistent but lacked the exceptional sweetness that many shoppers desired. Last year, the company sold over 228 tonnes—equivalent to 1.5 million punnets—of blackberries, yet they recognized the potential for growth in consumer preferences.

This season marks a turning point. Aldi expects blackberry sales to grow by up to 20%, thanks in part to their collaboration with Driscoll’s, their main blackberry supplier. Together, they have focused on breeding sweeter varieties that are less tart and more appealing.
