The Boston Marathon, celebrating its 130th edition, has introduced staggered start times for various categories of athletes, reshaping the race experience. This change aims to enhance safety and provide a better experience for both runners and spectators.
Before this shift, all runners faced a unified start time, which led to crowded conditions and logistical challenges. The new system allows for a more organized flow on the course, with specific start times allocated to different groups.
On Marathon Monday, excitement fills the air as participants line up at Hopkinton. The schedule now looks like this:
Start Times:
- Men’s Wheelchair: 9:06 a.m. ET
- Women’s Wheelchair: 9:09 a.m. ET
- Handcycle & Duo Participants: 9:30 a.m. ET
- Professional Men: 9:37 a.m. ET
- Professional Women: 9:47 a.m. ET
- Para Athletics Divisions: 9:50 a.m. ET
- Wave 1: 10:00 a.m. ET
- Wave 2: 10:25 a.m. ET
- Wave 3: 10:50 a.m. ET

The staggered starts mean that runners can track their progress more effectively using the BAA Racing App, allowing friends and family to cheer them on at precise moments along the course.
This year’s Marathon Monday features cool weather with sunny skies—ideal conditions for both seasoned competitors and first-time marathoners alike. As they tackle the course, each runner’s journey is unique, marked by personal goals and aspirations.
