Jesse Derry, an 18-year-old Chelsea forward, was taken to the hospital after sustaining a head injury during his Premier League debut against Nottingham Forest. He clashed heads with Zach Abbott in the 45th minute of the match.

Derry received oxygen on the pitch before being taken off on a stretcher. Chelsea confirmed that he is conscious and talking after the incident.

Before the injury, Derry had already made an impact. His performance drew praise from coach Calum McFarlane, who noted, “Gutted for Jesse, I thought he did well in the game. He gave us a threat – a massive moment for him that has ended sadly.”

The clash resulted in a penalty for Chelsea, which was saved by Matz Sels. Liam Delap replaced Derry as a concussion substitute.

Derry joined Chelsea from Crystal Palace last summer and has been making waves in the academy, scoring 12 goals in 29 matches this season. His debut was highly anticipated—an opportunity to showcase his talent on one of football’s biggest stages.

Unfortunately for Chelsea, they lost the match 3-1 to Nottingham Forest. The team now faces uncertainty regarding Derry’s condition and whether he will be able to return soon.

McFarlane expressed optimism about Derry’s health: “All signs are positive at the moment so we’re hopeful he’s in a good condition.”
