Tottenham in talks for Cody Gakpo, Savinho pursuit continues
Tottenham pursue attacking reinforcements
Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly engaged in significant discussions regarding Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo. According to reports, Tottenham have intensified their efforts to sign the Dutch international and have initiated direct contact with Liverpool to explore a potential summer transfer. Despite these talks, sources close to Gakpo indicate that no official agreements or personal terms have been finalised.
A move to North London is considered a serious option for Gakpo, as Spurs aim to strengthen their attacking lineup before the transfer window closes. Manager Roberto De Zerbi has prioritised reinforcing the wide positions, seeking to add up to two key players on the flanks for the upcoming campaign.

Gakpo, who joined Liverpool from PSV Eindhoven in January 2023, has established himself as a versatile forward. While his representatives maintain that no contract has been signed, Gakpo is understood to be receptive to joining Spurs if an agreement can be reached between the two clubs on a transfer fee. Tottenham are believed to have the financial capacity to complete such a deal, which could gain momentum in the final weeks of the summer transfer period.
Liverpool’s stance and other Spurs targets
Liverpool’s willingness to consider Gakpo’s departure is linked to their own recruitment strategy. The Reds are reportedly open to his exit if the price is right. It has been reported that Liverpool may seek to sign two additional wingers if Gakpo is sold. As discussions with Tottenham progress, Liverpool are also said to be pursuing primary targets, including PSG star Bradley Barcola and Ibrahim Mbaye, to revamp their attacking unit. Should Liverpool successfully advance negotiations for incoming wingers, the path for Gakpo to move to Tottenham could become clearer.
In addition to Gakpo, Tottenham are actively working on signing Savinho from Manchester City, with personal terms reportedly already agreed with the player. Reports suggest that Tottenham have also made a bid for the Manchester City star, who is also attempting to secure an exit. De Zerbi views the potential deals for Gakpo and Savinho as separate transactions, suggesting that both players could potentially arrive at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium before the summer window concludes.
Tottenham have already completed several signings this transfer window, including Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes. Other new recruits include defender Jan Paul van Hecke from Brighton, as well as free transfers Andy Robertson, Martin Dubravka, and Marcos Senesi. The club is also reportedly considered a frontrunner to sign striker Folarin Balogun.
In terms of outgoings, defenders Cristian Romero and Djed Spence are nearing moves away from the club. Inter Milan has reportedly agreed a deal with Spurs for Spence, which is said to include a 10 percent sell-on clause. Spence was reportedly granted permission to undergo his medical in Italy as the clubs continued their discussions.
Manager Roberto De Zerbi has expressed his ambition for Tottenham to compete at the top of the table and intends to remain with the club for an extended period. He has emphasised the need to establish a clear playing style and identity for the team, acknowledging that while new players have arrived, there is still work to be done.
Tottenham’s players are continuing their preparations for the upcoming Premier League season, which begins next weekend with a match against Brentford. The team is scheduled to play two friendly matches against Hoffenheim this weekend, with the first taking place at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
