Liverpool legend Mohamed Salah’s agent and Besiktas deny transfer agreement
Salah’s potential next move
Mohamed Salah, the former Liverpool forward, has not reached an agreement with Besiktas, despite reports suggesting otherwise. The Turkish club has confirmed that claims of a deal with the Egypt international are not accurate. However, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano indicates that Besiktas did extend an offer for the player.
Earlier in March, Liverpool had announced an agreement allowing Salah to depart Anfield at the season’s conclusion to pursue new opportunities. Salah has reportedly received offers from various leagues, including Saudi Arabia, Major League Soccer, and several European leagues, though his next destination remains unconfirmed.
Turkish journalist Yağız Saffunçuoğlu had previously reported that Salah had reached an agreement to join Besiktas this summer. Saffunçuoğlu detailed that Besiktas made an initial offer, and Salah, who initially sought a substantial annual salary, reportedly lowered his expectations for the move to the Turkish side. The journalist also claimed that Salah’s lawyer had arrived in Istanbul and that financial terms had been agreed upon, with negotiations continuing regarding contract duration and image rights.

Besiktas and agent deny reports
Following these reports, Salah’s agent, Ramy Abbas Issa, took to social media to state that the player’s next club is still unknown, though an announcement could be imminent. Besiktas subsequently issued a statement denying any agreement with Salah, directly refuting Saffunçuoğlu’s claims and criticising the journalist for spreading what they termed as ‘fictional’ reports.
Besiktas’ statement clarified that the information shared by the journalist regarding the club’s transfer process and conditions was entirely fabricated. The club further accused the individual of consistently spreading untrue reports related to their transfer procedures, thereby misleading the public. Besiktas reiterated that official transfer information is only shared through their official communication channels and urged fans not to trust unverified reports.
Romano, however, suggests that Besiktas could still be a potential destination for the Liverpool legend. He noted that Besiktas is maintaining discretion until a comprehensive agreement is reached, which is a common practice before a deal is finalised. Romano explained that the club’s denial is likely due to the agreement not yet being completed, which is understandable given the need for caution before an official confirmation.
Salah’s financial demands are reportedly a factor in his transfer discussions. According to one report, clubs in the Saudi Pro League are hesitant due to the Egypt international’s salary expectations. This could be influencing the ongoing negotiations and the cautious approach from clubs like Besiktas, who are said to be pursuing the transfer despite the denials.
Romano confirmed that Besiktas is indeed pursuing Salah and has made an offer, but an official agreement is still pending. He also mentioned that Salah has received offers from both MLS and Saudi clubs, indicating a competitive landscape for his signature. The situation highlights the complexities of high-profile transfers, with clubs often exercising discretion until all terms are fully agreed upon.
The transfer saga continues as Salah’s future remains uncertain, with his agent indicating that an announcement regarding his next club may be made very soon.
